U.S. Veteran

Sutton, NH-Adelbert M. Long, 85, of North Road, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the New London Hospital.

He was born in Des Moines, IA on June 5, 1927. He moved to North Sutton 18 years ago. Mr. Long served in the US Navy for 21 years during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. In 1965 he moved to Titusville, FL and was a gas systems mechanic for the International Space Center retiring after 30 years of service. While at the Space Center he was part of the launch team for the Saturn, Apollo, and Skylab Space Programs, including Apollo 11 with man’s first walk on the moon. He was very proud of his service in the Navy and his time with the space program.

Mr. Long was a member, former Deacon and greeter at Trinity Bible Church in Sutton. He was a volunteer at New London Hospital for 15 years. He was an avid collector of trains and a Christmas village. After moving to New Hampshire in 1994 he enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens and was a wonderful caregiver to his wife Patricia.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby Mae Long and a son, Richard. He married Patricia (Bottiger) Long in 1995. He is also survived by three children, Barbara Hensley of Titusville, FL, Deborah Horning of Knoxville, TN and Alan Long of Cooksville, TN; three stepchildren, Michele Lucey of Newbury, NH, Michael Mason of New Ipswich, NH and Mark Mason of Newbury, NH; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Bible Church, South Sutton, NH. Burial will be in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH at 12:00 Noon with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New London Hospital, 273 County Road, New London, NH 03257.
