Obituary: Judith Kinne Chapin
Judith Kinne Chapin died on July 7, 2012 after a short battle with cancer.
Judy was born in 1923 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Lyman and Lillian (Bond) Kinne. She was predeceased by her sister Dixie.
Judy graduated from the Northfield School in Northhampton, Massachusetts, Randolf-Macon Women’s College in Virginia and the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston.
In 1951, Judy married Hugh Chapin, with whom she recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Judy and Hugh lived for many years in Madison New Jersey, where Judy devoted herself to raising their four children. Beginning in the early 1970’s, her life was filled with copious volunteer work, beginning with her job as the head buyer and manager of the Morris Museum gift shop in Morristown, New Jersey. Next, with a move from New Jersey to Boston, Judy became a co-director of the Society of Arts and Crafts store on Newbury Street. When she and Hugh moved to New London, New Hampshire in 1992, Judy became an active volunteer and board member of the COA Chapin Senior Center, where she served up until the time of her death.
Judy began vacationing in New London in 1961 and moved here with Hugh permanently in 1992. She loved swimming in the lake, tennis, golf, books and an active life.
Judy is survived by her children, Lyman and Suzanne Chapin, David Chapin and Lauren Norton, Sam and Beth Chapin, and Sarah and Stephen Columbia, and by her seven grandchildren.
