Loretta Quackenbos

Loretta (Dionne) Tobin Quackenbos

1922-2012

Loretta Quackenbos of New London, NH, died May 27, 2012, at her New London home. Lotte was born March 3, 1922 in Lawrence, MA, to Joseph and Sarah (Ouellette) Dionne. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1939, attended Jackson College and Burdett Business School and worked at the Massachusetts Safety Council as an assistant director in the industrial division. Lotte married Robert E. Tobin in 1942 and lived in Maynard, MA. After the war, she worked at GenRad Company as administrative assistant in the trusts division until her retirement in 1982. Lotte’s first husband died in 1979. Several years later she married John D. Quackenbos. Lotte and “Quack” divided their time between Wayland, MA and their summer home on Lake Sunapee in New London until Quack’s death in 1990 when Lotte moved permanently to Lake Sunapee.

Lotte leaves her son, Michael Tobin, his wife Sandra, grandson Sean; her stepchildren and their families: George Quackenbos of New London, Barbara McCandless of Lillouett, BC, Charles Williamson of Portland, OR, Elizabeth Hunt of Grantham, NH, Jane Williamson of North Sutton, NH, her sister Doris Bain, brother-in-law William Bain of Hamilton, MA, as well as many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her stepdaughter Susan Williamson, a sister Fernande Smith, and a brother Raymond Dionne.

She was a member of the Lake Sunapee Country Club, the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club and the Lake Sunapee Protective Association. Lotte especially enjoyed outdoor activities including golf, tennis and swimming.

Lotte was loved and adored by her large extended family and wide circle of friends. She was always refreshingly direct with great wit and a sense of humor. In recent years Lotte’s young grandson, Sean Tobin held a very special place in her heart – as did 17 other step-grand and great-grand children.

There will be a private memorial service for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be welcome to the Lake Sunapee Protective Association, PO Box 683, Sunapee, NH 03782, or the Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice,

107 Newport Road, PO Box 2209, New London, NH 03257.
