Anna F. Moore (formerly Anna F. Maguire), 90, died peacefully in New London, NH at her home in the Woodcrest Village Assisted Living facility. She is survived by her husband, James B. Moore, also of Woodcrest Village; her two sons, James Maguire (Karen) of Marco Island, FL and John Maguire (Ellen) of Brookline, MA; her grandchildren, Kerry, Allison, Amanda, and Dylan; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Liam, Fiona and Declan; and extended family members.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1921, she grew up in Ossining, NY, the daughter of Frank and Margherita Purpura. She married John H. (Bud) Maguire in 1941 and lived in Ossining until 1958 when they bought Quimby’s Diner (later Chicken Pickin’ Restaurant) in Andover, NH. She worked in the business and also taught part-time at Procter Academy and managed their apartments in the former Farnum house. Widowed in 1978, she lived with her mother in their Andover home until her mother’s death in 1985.
She married James (Jim) B. Moore in 1983 moving to their house on Gay Farm Road in New London in 1986. The Moore addition to her family added three more sons and two daughters: John, Michael, Brian, Margot and Bette. Anna and Jim moved to Woodcrest in 2006.
Anna was active in civic associations including the Andover Service Club, Andover Historical Society, Red Hat Society and various committees at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH, April 30, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Potter Place on May 1, 2012 at 10:30 am with graveside service at Proctor Cemetery following.
