New London, NH-Steven Lloyd Hollis, Jr. Capt. (Ret) NOAA, 90, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at the New London Hospital.

He was born on January 7, 1922 in Holyoke, MA the son of Steven and Daisy (Ford) Hollis. He graduated from the University of MA in 1947 after serving three years in the Army in WWII. Mr. Hollis joined the US Coast & Geodetic Survey as a uniformed career officer in 1947, retiring as a Captain in 1975. His service included duty on hydrographic and oceanographic ships on the east coast and in Alaskan and Pacific Islands. He worked with survey geodetic and photogrametric parties in the southwest and eastern US.

Mr. Hollis retired to New London in 1975, where he has been active in the Lake Sunapee Country Club. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and the Retired Officers Association (now MOAA). He logged in many hours and miles driving for COA and Meals on Wheels.

He leaves his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Lister) Hollis of New London; a daughter, Christine Hollis of Albuquerque, NM; a son, David and his wife, Lawless Hollis of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Steven and a daughter, Kathryn.
